We’ve already reviewed a number of electric kettles but today were going to focus on a particular brand that is known for manufacturing excellent electric kettles. They have a history of innovation, quality and their products have garnered thousands of great reviews all across the world.
Today, we’re going to focus on three popular Breville models focusing on performance, safety, style, ease of use and price.
Breville BKE820XL Variable-Temperature 1.8-Liter Kettle
The Breville variable Temperature Kettle is a head turner with its beautiful stainless steel brushed design that will heat your water in only 4 minutes. It has a wide soft open lid that is easy top open, which facilitates cleaning and filling with water. It has a 1.8 liter capacity which should be enough for making several cups( ~7) to serve the whole family.
It has a 360 degree rotating base, cord storage wrap around, and an Auto Shut off safety feature as well.
It features a precise level indicator to easily gauge water levels, and perhaps most importantly, it can be programmed to heat your water up to 5 specific preset temperatures. Serious drinkers know that different types of tea or coffee require different temperatures for best taste. Finally, it has a keep warm time of 20 minutes, as do all the Breville models featured here.
The temperature settings are:
- -175F – ideal for Green Tea
- -185F – ideal for White Tea
- -195F – ideal for Oolong Tea
- -200F – ideal for French Press
- -212F – ideal for boiling and black tea
Breville BKE720BSS The Temp Select Electric Kettle, Silver – 1.7L
The Breville Temp Select is another elegantly designed brushed stainless steel electric kettle with a soft opening lid that prevents splashing an release steam. It too has a dual water window for increased visibility and the same 360 degree base and cord storage as the Breville BKE820.
It also has the ability to program different temperature settings for brewing different types of tea and coffee, which can be programmed via the one touch control device at the base of the unit. With 1500 watts of power, expect to have your water heated up in no time.
The only real difference is in a slightly different water capacities – the BKE720 holds 1.7L (or 7 cups) vs the Breville BKE820. The Breville BKE700 is a similar model with the same features as well.
Breville BKE830XL IQ Electric Kettle – Pure, Silver
This is yet another beautifully designed electric kettle from Breville but the main difference is here is that the body is made of high quality shock resistant German Schott glass.
For some, it is a matter of preference while others believe that glass is the safest material in which to heat water as it is toxin and BPA free though pretty much everyone agrees that nowadays, stainless steel is equally safe; we generally avoid plastic kettles however.
As for features, they are the same as the other Breville models ie. 5 variable temperature settings, a 360 degree rotating base, a removable scale filter, auto shut off and boil dry protection.
Our Take: These Breville electric kettles all have great user reviews and functionaliy. It comes down to a matter of style preference – do you prefer glass or kettle?
